The present study aimed to design a model of turnaround leadership in secondary schools of West Azerbaijan province during the academic year 2023–2024. This study was conducted using a qualitative-applied mixed method with a grounded theoryapproach based on Strauss and Corbin's perspective. The research process consisted of two main parts: a systematic literature review and semi-structured interviews. Participants included principals who had succeeded in guiding underperforming schools back to a desirable path within a short period. Purposive sampling was employed, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 principals. A set of qualitative strategies was used to validate the findings. In the systematic review stage, peer review, comparison with similar studies, team consensus, and participant feedback were utilized. In the interview stage, open, axial, and selective coding was performed by several researchers; findings were reviewed with participants; continuous data comparison and triangulation of methods were carried out; and the researcher also enhanced the credibility of the results through prolonged engagement in the field and providing rich descriptions of the research context. Finally, the credibility of the synthesis of findings from the systematic review and interviews was evaluated using triangulation, Strauss and Corbin's ten criteria, and within the framework of Guba and Lincoln's four criteria. The findings indicated that the components of turnaround leadership in the literature review included management and leadership, organizational development, quality and process improvement, collaboration and communication, evaluation and optimization, and individual and organizational development; while in the interviews they included strategic planning, communication enhancement, resource development, attention to culture and values, and innovation and creativity. Ultimately, the final model was developed into five dimensions: strategic leadership, organizational development and improvement, communication and collaboration, culture and values, and learning and organizational growth.
